Locke ran 161 EMS calls during January, February, and March of 2016–approximately 55% of call volume.  That is just slightly more than the 134 Fire/Rescue calls (45%) during the same range.

For the first quarter, EMS calls were led by a “Top 3” of chest pain (31), breathing problems (21), and unknown medical calls (19).  Following closely were falls with injury (15).

Locke also responded to 12 overdose calls in the first quarter.  Overdoses alone make up over 7% of all calls run in 2016; that’s roughly 1 out of every 14 Locke dispatches.  A national and regional trend toward increased abuse of opioid painkillers, heroin, and other street narcotics has had a devastating effect, even in our community.

On the Fire/Rescue side, structure fires (59), traffic accidents (28), and fire alarms (20) constituted the largest response categories.  These 3 combined represent nearly 80% of Fire/Rescue calls for the quarter.  Two of these traffic accidents required extrication operations.  70 of our calls also provided mutual aid response to nearby districts.
